History of Super Mario Bros
The seventh highest selling game of all time is the first game of one of the most well known game series, the original Super Mario Bros. Although it is only the seventh highest selling game it is the game that probably had the most influence on the gaming industry. Super Mario Bros is a platforming game where you play as the either the player 1 character Mario or the player 2 character , his brother, Luigi. The goal is to play different levels staged in their home, the Mushroom Kingdom, to rescue the princess. In these levels you must use platforming skills to traverse difficult landscapes while fighting enemies and collecting powerups and coins.
Super Mario Bros. was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka and released in 1985. The game was aimed to be a culmination of all the gaming knowledge the two had acquired working on previous Nintendo titles such as Excitebike and Devil World. The release of the game was a huge success. In Japan, around 1.2 million copies were sold just in the first month and within 4 months around 3 million copies were sold. The game was so popular that today copies of the game have become collectors items. In August of 2021 a copy of the game was sold to an anonymous buyer for 2 million dollars.
