Tetris

History of Tetris

The third best selling game of all time is Tetris. There are many different versions of the game but the version that sold the most is the mobile version published by Electronic Arts. The core of the game is the same as all other Tetris game where the goal is to rotate and drop different shaped pieces to make straight lines and clear them. This version of the game also had a mode called magic. In this mode there were 15 levels, each one with a higher difficulty. Each level increases in speed and the amount of lines required to clear it. There are also special power ups that further distance the game mode from regular Tetris.

The original Tetris was developed by a Soviet software engineer named Alexey Pajitnov in 1985. He found inspiration for the game from a game he used to play in his childhood called pentominoes. The goal of this game was to create pictures using the blocky shapes the game came with. Pajitnov used to struggle putting the game back in its box which gave way to the block stacking game we know today. He also developed another version of Tetris called Welltris which has the same goals as regular Tetris, but it was three dimensional and the player looked at the field from above.
